Subject: Set
Up for Little Rocks
Question:
We have a Little Rock curling program at the Gage
Curling Club in oromocto. This year we have quite a few younger
and smaller curlers than we had in past years. We have a sheet
divider and are in the process of setting up a half sheet. Are
there any special or different rules for the half sheet division
of Little Rocks? Do they throw 8 rocks or 4? Anything special
we need to do?
Answer:
That is great the little rock children will have
a great time. This young age group is the key to our sport growing
over the next few years.
I suspect you have the hack in the middle of the sheet now and
some little rock stones to play with?
There is now real difference in the rules of play. What is the
most important part is the children are having fun. What we have
found is that in half sheet curling you should only use one stone
per player. So 4 rocks per team. This way when they finish an
end it is not a big task for the children to bring the rocks back
to the throwing end. The other part is to lessen the ends to 4
or 6 so that you can have quick games and change the positions
and teams around to create more fun and excitement for the children.
Then best thing to do for them is keep it simple so the excitement
level is high. Don't worry about the rules to much just let them
throw the stones, do some sweeping and have fun. As you see their
inquisitive nature come out then you can add more information
about the rules and etiquette.
Hope this some help to you?
Sincerely,
Team ICC
