Subject: Curling
conduct and sportmanship
Question:
Hi!!! As you have probably guessed by the name
I'm a girl... I'm 13 and I just started curling this year!!! It's
so fun I love it. I play with a whole bunch of guys... My question
is their really mean to me... This one guy who is 18 says it's
cause their jealous of me cause I'm really good... Is that true?
Also do you think someone who is really determined could go into
the Olympics in Curling sometime? Ok well thanks!!!
Answer:
Thank you!
Your question is greatly appreciated
and always welcomed.
This is a tough one. So many things
to look at. But the main thing we see in this is conduct. Curling
upholds a high standard of conduct but it seems that some of the
boys in your junior program may not be. Above all things this
is part of the CCA
curling rules.
Curlers' Code of Ethics
(Small
part of the whole rule book you can see here)
I will play the game with a spirit of good sportsmanship.
I will conduct myself in an honourable manner both on and off
the ice.
We are not saying it could be jealousy
but we think that is not the point here. Some people react or
treat other people in different ways, and we can't always tell
why.
But we will say one thing for sure
about you Kayte your are the future of curling. At the age you
are at, with the attitude you have, keeping up your practising,
seeking help and guidance from your coaches and above all keep
having the fun your are. It may or may not be the Olympic but
you will definetly succed. I wish all juniors curlers had your
attitude towards the game.
Thank you for helping us grow!
We would love if you became a member
of our Curling Club.
Sincerely,
Team ICC
