Subject: Missing
the broom
Question:
I only started playing curling a couple of years
ago, very often the skip will say that the shot was off the broom.
There is many time that I just cant see how this judgment is made,
Is it when stone is release and the first couple of feet are traveled
? Please provide details as to how this is achieved?
Answer:
Thank you!
Your question is greatly appreciated
and always welcomed.
This is a very normal thing and people
that are outside curling do not understand the complexity of a
curling delivery.
Hitting the broom as they say is
very hard. The two key factors to look at, is your hack foot and
knee pointing at your target or broom and is your stone in the
center of your body when sliding out. Doing these two key factors
is essential. But We will be honest with you there is many more
area (release, rotation, body position, ect.......) that as a
person skill level goes up they must be looked at.
We suggest you ask a your club if
there is any clinics or coaches that would mind helping you with
your delivery. A delivery is something that you can keep working
on for many years to improve. But it is up to you to see how much
you want to devote to improving.
So don't get us wrong were are not
saying the skip is not making mistakes. But usually the skip is
one of the most experienced people on the team and they are always
trying to help.
So go see your local club coach or
instructor for some feedback. The CCA
has developed a great coaching program.
Thank you for helping us grow!
We would love if you became a member
of our Curling Club.
Sincerely,
Team ICC
